Don’t Work Hard, Work Smart

Don't Work Hard, Work Smart

There are a lot of people. You’ve seen the kind. The one who is always running from one place to the next and is constantly moving, always on the move, never ever stopping. They might believe that being busy indicates they’re doing their job however it’s not the same. Most successful individuals are accomplishing great things despite doing little, and while others would claim that they’re lucky, I’d argue that they’re incredibly adept in “smart” working. They know precisely how to accomplish maximum results in the least amount of possible time.

What do they do? Through organization and having a plan as straightforward as that. By following these tips and you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to achieve vast amounts of work in a short time. This will help propel your company to the next level.

1. Reconsider your position

If you’re running the business of your choice, it’s way too easy to get caught up in day-to-day working and not take the time to take a good take a look at what you’re doing and what you’re aiming to accomplish. When you know the direction you’re headed, think of a strategy of how you can get there.

2. Tidy your desk

While I am able that know a few highly successful individuals who thrive in an uncluttered space, We all need clear, empty spaces to perform our work efficiently, and so my recommendation is to clean your desk of any unnecessary clutter in order to be productive.

3. Choose your goals

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? It’s essential to consider this question prior to embarking on any project. Does it make sense within the overall vision of what you wish to accomplish? If not, then don’t go for it. Simple as that.

4. Have a Plan

Many of us sit at our desks at the beginning of our day with no concrete concept of what we’re going to accomplish. Then, we spend the next hour or so talking about it and never actually engaging in anything productive.

Write down a list of what you’d like to accomplish the night prior. When you get up the next day, you’ll know precisely what you’d like to see accomplished and be able to begin immediately.

5. Think Small

What do you hear you yell? We’re constantly told to be bold! It’s true. However, when it comes to planning the tasks, you’ll need to complete the big tasks that be overwhelming to handle, which is why we tend to put off the task for a while instead of getting things accomplished. Make sure to break big tasks into manageable pieces, so you don’t get overwhelmed.

6. Create a “Will Do” List

There are a lot of things to accomplish, but not all of them can be completed in one day. Yet, we are all accustomed to placing every task on the list, which does not end. This isn’t healthy for us because the list doesn’t end, which is why we keep worrying about what we’ve not yet completed and view it as a kind of Everest that we’ll never be able to overcome. This isn’t effective since we find ourselves exhausted and disappointed.

It’s better to create a list of what we “will accomplish” during the day. Not only do we get more accomplished and feel more satisfied with ourselves. When each item is removed from the list, and the list moves closer to completion, we get feeling a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

7. Stay Focused

Every day is packed with distractions, email, phone calls or social media, to mention just the most common ones which can cause you to get distracted from the task you’re trying to accomplish. If you can, schedule the time each day to handle Social Media, calls to clients, and emails, in order to free significant amounts of time to focus on more productive work. If you disrupt your thinking process to change between tasks throughout your day, you’ll spend time refocusing on your task at your current task, which can mean that the tasks require more time to complete than you thought they would. While many of us have a knack for multi-tasking, paying focus to one task at a given time will yield more effective outcomes.

8. Eyes on the prize

In addition to having to be focused on the task in the process, you also need to be aware of what you’re striving to achieve. The reason you’re doing something can give you the motivation you require to bring it to completion. The minor tasks can appear to be insignificant, but they’re typically an integral component of something larger and getting them completed will help you get to where you need to get to in a less period of time.

9. Seconds out

Break your day down into smaller intervals of time, and make a plan for how you can use each piece of time efficiently. Don’t let projects take over their allotted time. If you need to, set an alarm clock to notify you when it’s time to move to the next project. Are you not satisfied? Set aside a block of time on the next day to finish the task.

10. Take a Break…

Do not think that simply because you’re not working, you’re not doing your job effectively. Sometimes the most innovative business ideas come up in the most unexpected of moments, so don’t be afraid to step out to reflect and review. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by a problem that it’s challenging to come up with solutions; however, having a break for a short amount of time could do miracles. Walk around, sip a cup of tea or chat with a friend or even take a nap. Take whatever you like to clarify your goal, but make sure to set the timer.

Remember, you can’t manage time. It’s impossible. Time will pass regardless of what you do, and while many scientists have tried throughout the years to build an automated device to stop time, nothing has yet achieved success (and those who love The Big Bang Theory will be aware of how depressing this could be!)

The best thing you can do is to control what you can accomplish in the time that is available. While I’m not going to say that this is a complete list and it won’t be suitable for all people, However, since the majority of people complain that they aren’t getting enough hours out of the day, maybe some of these suggestions will help to accomplish more in a short amount of time.
